Cell biological techniques are used to build a picture of the spatio-temporal context of cellular processes and protein activities. Fluorescent protein tagging and a number of fluorescent dyes or dye conjugates allow investigation of protein locations and cellular processes in living tissue. Fixed cell techniques such as electron microscopy enable fine detail imaging of cellular structures and protein targeting.
We use cell biological approaches to study effector delivery, effector and target protein localisations and co-localisations in infected and uninfected plants, and to assay effector-target interactions in situ. The latter adds to the protein-protein interaction data obtained with other techniques.
