"The Institute’s research underpins Scotland’s highly successful food and drink industry, whether they are big corporations or small, independent businesses.

With over 350 guests from around Perthshire in attendance, including the newly installed Deputy First Minister of Scotland John Swinney MSP, the James Hutton Institute presented the Excellence in Food and Drink award to Inveralmond Brewery during the Perthshire Business Star Awards dinner held at the Crieff Hydro on 21 November.

The Institute sponsored the award for the second year running, and the judging panel comprised Mark Sinclair, Director of Corporate Services; Maureen Young, broadcaster and writer; and Andrew Fairlie, chef at his two-Michelin Star Gleneagles restaurant.

Inveralmond Brewery from Perth scooped the award in the face of very stiff competition from the other shortlisted companies in their category, Strathearn Distillery and Iain Burnett Highland Chocolatier.

On presenting the award to Fergus Clark, Managing Director of Inveralmond Brewery, Mark Sinclair said: “The James Hutton Institute is delighted to once more support the Star Awards to celebrate the success of Perthshire businesses.

The Institute’s research underpins Scotland’s highly successful food and drink industry, whether they are big corporations or small, independent businesses. We are proud to support the sector in Scotland and Perthshire through our sponsorship of the Excellence in Food and Drink Award.”

Perthshire Business Star Awards celebrate all aspects of the local business world, including tourism and leisure, food and drink, retail, innovation, customer service, commitment to the community and exporting. The awards also recognise the value of emerging talent and individuals who have proved outstanding in their particular sector as apprentices and employees.
