British Society of Soil Science/Scottish Root Group joint meeting
A joint meeting between the BSSS Scottish Soils Discussion Group and the Scottish Root Group will be held at SAC (Edinburgh) on 2 November 2011. It has been organised to forum for review, discussion and learning about recent developments in root and soil interactions with particular emphasis on the following.
- Nutrient balances and exchange.
- The impacts of climate change on soils and plant roots.
- The use of models to explore relationships between roots and soil.
- Carbon storage.
- The effects of biochar in arable agricultural systems.
- The use of life cycle analyses in a changing world.
We hope that this meeting will attract researchers, policymakers, consultants and farmers. An invited speaker (Professor Karl Ritz) will present diverse perspectives on root and soil interactions, and additional speakers will have the opportunity to present recent research activities. A poster session will also be held giving the opportunity to display recent outcomes and to engage with people of similar interests. A debate session will give the opportunity to discuss current needs and future priorities including views from researchers, consultants and farmers.
To register your interest for a talk or poster presentation please send an abstract to Valentini Pappa (no more than one-page) including your email address and name details by 14 October 2011.
For details and registration please see the British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) website.
The meeting is free for BSSS members and will cost £25 for non-members.
