I graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc honours in Botany in 1988. In 1991 I was awarded a DPhil in Biological Sciences from the University of York. I held a postdoctoral research position on the characterisation of novel starch synthases in potato at the John Innes Institute until 1995. I then worked as a technician at the University of Warwick (1998-2006) and Dundee (2006-2012). I am currently the lab manager/ technician for Dr Nicola Holden’s laboratory.

The James Hutton Research Institute is the result of the merger in April 2011 of MLURI and SCRI. This merger formed a new powerhouse for research into food, land use, and climate change.
