I have a background in environmental science and engineering. Over the past 15 years I have been conducting interdisciplinary research on impact of climate change on different production systems especially agriculture systems in several countries. After obtaining a PhD from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, India, I worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Complex System Research Centre at University of New Hampshire, USA and McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada. In 2007, I joined Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Aberdeen, Scotland. In October 2013 I joined as Scientist in Information and computational science group at the James Hutton Institute.

Current research interests

My current research interests focus on interactions between terrestrial ecosystems and the global atmosphere, with a particular focus on soils and their role in global carbon and nitrogen cycling, to understand how the ecology of ecosystems may be shifting in response to global climate change. This work has been conducted across many varied temperate and tropical ecosystems and has contributed directly to a number of international collaborative projects including the, NitroEurope-IP, GHG-Europe, SmartSoil, MACSUR and networks. Like Global Research Alliance in Agriculture Greenhouse gas emissions (GRA), FACE-JPI etc.

Current research focuses on:

  • modelling soil carbon and nitrogen biogeochemistry
  • greenhouse gas fluxes from terrestrial ecosystems
  • climate change impacts and adaptation in agriculture,
  • sustainability of ecosystem services under changing climate
  • land use change and food security.

Current responsibilities:

  • Group leader, Human and Environmental modelling group
  • Research Deliverable (RD) leader for delivering Scottish Government Strategic Research Programme (RESAS, 2016-2022, RD 1.1.3) on Soils and Greenhouse Gas Emissions [3]
  • Co-ordinator for Global Research Alliance Modelling Platform [4]
  • Founding member of Asian Long-term Experimental Network (ALTENA), Japan [5]
