Inge has experience in research and consultancy. With a background in physical geography and sustainable agriculture, much of the early work has focused on soil quality and soil erosion, and landscape ecology. Over time her work has focused on the process and modelling of landscape and land-use change and the integration of socio-economic and biophysical processes. In the process, she has developed expertise in interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research environment. Recent projects she has been involved in include EU FP7 ENVIEVAL [2] (Development and application of new methodological frameworks for the evaluation of environmental impacts of rural development programmes in the EU) and Scottish Government strategic research in relation to ecosystem services, in particular, cultural ecosystem services.
Main research interests are spatio-temporal dynamics, issues of scale, integration of socio-economic and biophysical processes, and include the use and development of interdisciplinary and participatory research methodologies. Skills in GIS, RS, conceptual modelling, Bayesian Belief Networks, and programming (R and python) are applied in research to enhance monitoring of landscape change and to support the development of resilience among local communities and their ability to manage and adapt to change in both temperate and tropical areas.
