At the heart of the Ecological Sciences department are a range of facilities and research platforms which allow us to conduct long-term experiments and engage with the wider scientific community and stakeholders. Our extensive in-house facilities include molecular, microbiological and invertebrate laboratories as well as preparation suites for plant & soil samples, glasshouses [1] and controlled growth rooms and growth cabinets. For our field based research, we have on-site weather information gathering ("met") stations, automated greenhouse gas sampling systems, and water/soil and invertebrate sampling systems. Our research equipment includes DNA sequencing [2], gas chromatography and microscopy. We have extensive storage facilities including -80°C storage and walk-in deep freeze and cold storage units.
