Pedotransfer is the process by which complex soil properties are estimated from existing, generally simpler, soil properties. This process was used in HOST to derive the soil attributes used in the development of the classification. Pedotransfer rules were applied at the level of the soil horizon to provide semi-quantitative assessments of the indices depth to gleying and depth to a slowly permeable layer while class pedotransfer functions based on soil texture class and packing density measurements made by SSLRC were used to derive the integrated Air Capacity.
