Soil profileLandscape

Geology:
mid terrace alluvial deposits.
Landforms:
gently undulating mid terraces away from the river in the lowlands or, as in many Highland glens, on outwash alluvial fans of coarse textured sand and gravel deposits.
Soils:
immature free and imperfectly drained, coarse textured alluvial soils (wetness class I-Ill).
Flow:
these soils are underlain by a fluctuating groundwater table generally within two metres.
