Robin is a plant ecologist at the Institute focussing on the management and functioning of biodiversity in a range of Scottish ecosystems. He currently leads one of the five Scottish Government funded research themes in the Strategic Research Programme, Theme D “Natural Resources [2]” as well as a project in the Biodiversity Topic “Identifying the causes of biodiversity change with specific references to the Intergovernmental Science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services drivers [3]”.
He was appointed a Visiting Professor in the School of Biological Science at the University of Liverpool in 2001, appointed a Chartered Ecologist in 2014 and became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management in 2022. He is a Coordinating Editor of the Nordic Journal of Botany [4], an Associate Editor of Applied Vegetation Science [5]and a Subject Editor for Oikos [6]. He is an author of over 200 refereed publications as well as numerous reports to government departments and statutory agencies.
Robin is the institute’s representative on the North-East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership [7]and chairs its Management Group.
