Dr Mario Vallejo-Marin (University of Stirling) will deliver this Aberdeen Entomological Club seminar entitled “Buzz Pollination”. It will be held at the James Hutton Institute in Dundee (and screened to the Institute’s Aberdeen site).
Dr Vallejo-Marin studied Biology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) at the Faculty of Sciences and did his undergrad thesis on the evolutionary ecology of seed predation at the Ecology Institute under the supervision of Prof Cesar Dominguez Perez-Tejada. He also studied in UCLA, and obtained a PhD at Duke University with Prof Mark D. Rausher where he studied self-incompatibility and the evolution of plant reproductive strategies. He then did a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto with Prof Spencer C. H. Barrett studying the evolution of plant reproduction. Since 2008, Dr Vallejo-Marin leads his own lab at the University of Stirling where he studies plant evolution, speciation and buzz pollination.
The talk starts at 4 pm with light refreshments available from 3.30 pm. The seminar can also be followed online [1] - use access code 950 647 277 and password dEBtpUsm.
