Soils of the Crofts

2 This book was produced by the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute in partnership with Crofting Connections. The purpose of the book is to make young people aware of the important roles that soils play in a crofting community. As of 1 April 2011, the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute has joined with the Scottish Crop Research Institute to form The James Hutton Institute. This combines existing strengths in crops, soils and land use and environmental research. It is the first Institute of its type in Europe and will make major new contributions to the understanding of key global issues, such as food, energy and environmental security. © The James Hutton Institute August 2011 Craigiebuckler Aberdeen AB15 8QH Tel +44 (0)844 928 5428 Fax +44 (0)844 928 5429 www.hutton.ac.uk ISBN: 978-0-902701-00-7 THE MACAULAY LAND USE RESEARCH INSTITUTE
