It will host a Festival of Science, Wisdom and Faith on of 5/6 June (in honour of Hutton’s birthday on 3 June) with an evening event ‘A very Scottish Enlightenment’ on Friday 5 June where Prof Stuart Monro will present James Hutton: Enlightenment thinker, with a legacy for the present day! A PechaKucha TM session and talk on Science and Literature – a case study on inter-field influence and inspiration will follow, courtesy of crime Writer Val McDermid, and forensic scientist Niamh Nic Daeid. As part of the campaign to increase James Hutton’s reputation and profile ahead of his 300th anniversary in 2026 a version of the stylised portrait of the man has been launched as a commercially available T-shirt design via the Redbubble on-demand merchandise platform. The design’s ‘The original rock star’ heading is a play on the man’s main fame as a geologist and the medium of the printed T-shirt as a way to show one’s enthusiasm for particular musicians and ‘rock stars’. It’s hoped that the 16 colour and multiple style options will find a ready market among geologists and others who have a connection to James Hutton’s many influential scientific discoveries. All proceeds will go to the James Hutton Foundation. Hutton at Kirk’s 400th celebration James Hutton News Aberdeen/Dundee | | Thursday 6 Feb 2020
