New ways of integrating biodiversity conservation within productive landscapes are required

Biodiversity underpins the life support systems of the globe. Rates of biodiversity extinction due to habitat loss, pollution, overexploitation and climate change are up to 1,000 times higher than they have been for millennia. Protecting biodiversity within reserves and designated areas will not meet the challenge of stemming biodiversity loss. New ways of integrating biodiversity conservation within production landscapes are required. We will combine our skills in ecological, environmental, social and computational science to develop means of delivering biodiversity benefits a through an ecosystem services framework.
