• Valuing the impacts of ecosystem service interactions for policy effectiveness [2] (PDF file: 689 KB)
  This project was funded by NERC as part of the Valuing Nature Network. It brought together an interdisciplinary team (soil scientists, ecologists, economists and modellers) to develop an understanding of how ecosystem processes and services interact in an agricultural system to produce benefits for people.   This project, driven by the Scottish Government's commitment to a Greener [5]and Healthier [6]Scotland, aimed to explore the relationship between green space and human health using a range of methods and disciplinary approaches at different scales. • Blue Health Project [8] (PDF file: 1,263 KB)
  A sister project to the Green Health Project, this work reviewed the state of knowledge of the role of water in relation to wellbeing. More information can be found at the project page [9] at the Centre of Expertise for Water (CREW).

• Nature conservation and ecosystem service delivery [10]
  This 2013 Joint Nature Conservation Committee funded project assesses how nature conservation management affects ecosystem service delivery as well as delivering conservation outcomes.

• The potential ecological impact of ash dieback in the UK [11]
  This 2013 Joint Nature Conservation Committee funded project assesses the potential impact of Chalara fraxinea on populations of ash and associated species in British woodlands.

• Optimising Water Framework Directive River Basin Management Planning Using an Ecosystem Services Approach [12]
  This report, commissioned by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency [13] (SEPA), reviews the process of River Basin Management Planning and identifies how and where an Ecosystem Services Approach might assist SEPA in improving their delivery of the Water Framework Directive [14].

• A systematic evaluation of Scotland’s Natural Capital Asset Index (NCAI) [15]
  In 2011, Scotland became the first country in the world to publish a detailed attempt to measure annual changes in its natural capital, based on an evaluation of ecosystem service potential. This report, commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage [16], reviews the indicators used, their robustness, and draws on recent developments in natural asset accounting to explore options for refining the NCAI.

• Starting points for evaluating implementation of the 'Ecosystem Approach' [17] (PDF File: 444 KB)
  A seven page report which provides some suggestions for evaluating the implementation on an Ecosystem Approach.

• Green National Income and the Agricultural Sector in Scotland – A Combined Accounting and Modelling Approach [18] (PDF File: 689 KB)
  This 20 page report examines how natural resources and ecosystem services might more usefully be included in calculations of GDP, and uses this theoretical model to calculate an 'extended' GDP for Scotland.
