Noncalcareous Gleys

Noncalcareous Gleys soil profile
Gley soil with very poor drainage and significant peat development on surface often referred to as a peaty gley.

Distribution of Noncalcareous Gleys [1]These soils are naturally poorly drained and largely support grassland-based agricultural enterprises such as the dairy industry in Ayrshire. These soils often require careful management if they are not to be damaged by livestock or machinery.
