Wireless network access is available to members of the James Hutton Institute throughout our Aberdeen and Dundee sites, as well as to visitors.
If you use eduroam or govroam, you can connect automatically without requesting a wireless login. For visitors who are not from an organisation that provides eduroam or govroam access, a wireless login can be requested from reception at our Aberdeen or Dundee sites so that you can connect to our Hutton-Campus service.
eduroam [1] (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions without needing a guest account.
In the UK, eduroam is operated and provided by Jisc [2].
govroam [3] is eduroam for a wider public sector audience, and a visited-only service is provided at the James Hutton Institute.
govroam allows those from participating public sector organisations to obtain Internet connectivity both within their organisation and when visiting other participating institutions.
At the James Hutton Institute you can connect to eduroam, govroam or our Hutton-Campus guest network in all buildings at the Aberdeen site (including the hostel at the Cunningham Building), most buildings of the Dundee site, and at our Glensaugh office.
eduroam is also available from organisations throughout the world, a map of which is available here [4] and a map of organisations providing govroam access in the UK is here [5].
If you are a visitor to the James Hutton Institute from an organisation that provides eduroam or govroam, you should connect automatically. You should contact your own site’s IT staff for assistance if you have not already been setup to connect to eduroam or govroam.
Members of the James Hutton Institute can follow the instructions provided to setup their devices for connecting to eduroam [6]. It is recommended that you do this whilst at the Aberdeen or Dundee sites before travelling to another location where you may wish to use the eduroam service.
