Once in a Lifetime – Jonathan Snape reflects on career ahead of retirement from The James Hutton Institute Scientific Services

After almost 29 years working in Dundee, Jonathan Snape, Head of The James Hutton Institute Scientific Services, will retire at the end of April. Jonathan first joined the Hutton in 1997 as a commercial manager at Mylnefield Research Services Ltd and has served as a core member of what later became James Hutton Limited and then Hutton Scientific Services.
For the past seven years, he has lead the Hutton’s commercial wing, helping our scientists bring their research to the market and travelling to locations far and wide, including the Brazilian rainforest, mission control at NASA and banquets in China, Japan and India.
To mark his retirement, Jonathan has put together a brilliant memoir detailing his early life, studies in Cambridge and Birmingham, and work in Prague, Tsukuba and East Germany. His story brings together the miners’ strikes in Sheffield, Stephen Hawking, Japanese karaoke and much more, curating a playlist of Jonathan’s life along the way.
Please see below for a PDF of the memoir in full.
