Hutton Highlights Latest edition: July 2024

You can learn more about our work on climate trends and future projections in the article featuring Dr Mike Rivington’s work. Two reports he has produced show that the temperature change we have been expecting to take place over the next three decades is already happening and we are on course to reach the projections of higher temperatures that had been highlighted in the reports as a possibility.

Elsewhere, we’ve got the latest research using LED lights to grow strawberries indoors and the discovery of a rare truffle in Glen Creran and the conundrum it poses for conservationists. We also look at the development of a new islands categorisation system or ”typology” and the results on the presence of PFAS, more how we’re now finding PFAS, commonly known as “forever chemicals”, everywhere, from as far afield as ski slopes in Austria to the Yangtze River in China.

There is so much more, which just goes to show the breadth and diversity of our science and collaborations.
