The James Hutton Institute and Holyrood Distillery have collaborated on a new gin which celebrates the tercentenary of James Hutton’s birth.

Born in Edinburgh on 3 June 1726, James Hutton was a farmer, physician, chemist and natural philosopher whose ideas would go on to shape our understanding of the Earth itself. While composing his theories, Hutton carried out fieldwork across Scotland – including at Arthur’s Seat.

Named Height of Arrows after the Gaelic word Àrd-Na-Said – the historical name for Arthur’s Seat – the tercentenary gin commemorates Hutton’s groundbreaking work while celebrating an iconic Scottish landmark.

It takes the juniper-predominant flavour of the Height of Arrows and layers it with garam masala, angelica root, wakame seaweed, lime leaf and lemon peel – creating a warm, earthy flavour perfect for paying homage to a man who changed our connection to the land.

The tercentenary Height of Arrows is available at the Holyrood Distillery shop in Edinburgh. Stocks are limited, so make sure to grab a bottle before they’re all gone!
