Distribution of Blanket Peat Blanket Peats The blanket peatlands of Scotland, formed under cool maritime conditions are of international importance because of their global scarcity and the habitats they support provide important breeding grounds for a number of bird populations. They also contains a huge store of carbon and are an important component of the carbon budget for Scotland.
