Links Soils

Characteristics of Links Soils

  • Profile morphology weakly expressed; buried horizons or profiles often present
  • Parent material represented by aeolian sand
  • Located within flat areas on landward side of dunes
  • Soil drainage, free to excessive: poor drainage in dune slacks
  • Dark, organic-stained surface horizon overlies pale brown sand at depth
  • Land used principally for golf courses
