The James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen is supporting research that suggests 12 years of warfare in Northwest Syria is contaminating soils, posing risks to agriculture and food security in a region already under critical stress.

Efforts to discover the mystery cause of a devastating horse disease called equine grass sickness (EGS) have turned to soil science. A collaboration between soil specialists at The James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen, animal health experts at Moredun Research Institute and the Equine Grass Sickness Fund is hoping to find clues to the origin.

The third round of the Arctic Connections Fund was launched in March 2023 to help Scottish organisations and communities collaborate with partners in the Arctic. It promotes exchange of expertise on shared issues and aims to raise awareness of common ambitions in line with the Arctic policy framework.
