A key milestone on the road to the creation of The James Hutton Institute has taken place in Edinburgh. The Chairs of the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute and SCRI (Scottish Crop Research Institute) have signed documents that will clear the way for the creation of the new organisation.

Mr Michael Gibson, Chair of the Macaulay Institute and Mr Peter Berry CMG, Chair of SCRI were joined for the signing ceremony by Mr Ray Perman who was appointed Chair of The James Hutton Institute in March last year.

The James Hutton Research Institute is the result of the merger in April 2011 of MLURI and SCRI. This merger formed a new powerhouse for research into food, land use, and climate change.
