Tourism staff invited to ‘Know your Coast’
It has often been said that the people make a holiday; with friendly well informed staff at hotels, airport and restaurants making a huge difference. In order to help better inform tourism staff about what the area has to offer a new scheme called ‘Know your Coast’ is being launched.
Five bus tours will show tourism workers East Grampian’s best kept secrets, with participants experiencing our wonderful coastline and gaining exciting knowledge to pass on to guests. From where to see dolphins, puffins and seals, to castles and award winning beaches, there is so much to be discovered!
Linda Forrest of the East Grampian Coastal Partnership said: “Tourism staff have a very important role to play in promoting the City and Shire, we want to help them to be excited and knowledgeable about the areas coast and to help visitors, whether here for business or pleasure, to make the most of their stay”.
Shona Anderson, Regional Director of VisitScotland, added: “We’re fortunate enough to have one of the most stunning coastlines in the world right on our doorstep and so it’s crucial we make the most of it. In fact, research tells us time and time again that for visitors it’s the scenery and sightseeing that top the wish list of things to do while they’re here. Visitor feedback also tells us that holiday makers like nothing more than a personal tip or recommendation from a friendly ‘local’. That’s why an initiative like this is so important - by working together we can harness the opportunity and make sure Scotland’s tourism ambassadors are well equipped not only to meet, but exceed our visitors’ expectations.”
Know Your Coast is open to anyone involved in dealing with visitors such as airport and ferry terminal staff, airport taxi drivers, hotel receptionists, people running B&Bs and exhibition and conference staff. These free events will run in March and can be booked though the East Grampian Coastal Partnership. For more details please see www.egcp.org.uk or email Linda Forrest.
