Glensaugh research and data

The move towards climate-positive farming gives exciting and diverse opportunities for research, demonstration and outreach at Glensaugh.

More information is available via the Research Highlight ‘thumbnails’ with information about specific research projects.

Glensaugh has a wealth of data from the many decades of research on the farm and we are delighted to showcase two new data handling platforms. Please explore both facilities and check out their capabilities – both are designed to make data available and allow external interrogation/learning, raise awareness and stimulate new collaborative ventures.

Bringing in some of the available spatial data for the farm, this interactive resource allows user-driven display and overlays. The spatial datasets in this resource are extracted from existing datasets – with interactivity enabled, including clickable layers and the ability to overlay multiple data sets – so that users working or intending to work on the farm can have overviews of biophysical characteristics of the landscape.

A dedicated data portal for Glensaugh was created by the James Hutton Institute as part of the Scottish-Government-funded Natural Asset Register. All the available datasets have detailed associated information, key-word search-options, and many datasets are available for download.

Our diverse projects encompass agroforestry, peatland restoration, renewable energy, and biodiversity conservation, all aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing ecosystem resilience.

By integrating scientific research with practical applications, Glensaugh serves as a living laboratory, demonstrating transformative approaches to agriculture that benefit both the environment and rural communities.
