Caroline joined the Institute in 1984 as a research assistant. She has experience of a broad range of Analytical techniques including GC/MS, HPLC, XRD, XRF, Dionex, TOC and the Discrete Analyser and a substancial amount of general laboratory experience. Currently she is the coordinator of the sample preparation team for the National Soils Inventory for Scotland (NSIS) resampling programme, and working within the Analytical Group as an assistant. She is also the Facility Manager of the National Soils Archive.

Current research interests

Her work involves the preparation of the NSIS resampling soils for analytical analysis, then the subsequent analysis within the labs. She is now working with the Discrete analyzer within the Analytical Group. Previously Caroline worked within the X-Ray Diffraction lab doing both commercial and research XRD analysis.

The James Hutton Research Institute is the result of the merger in April 2011 of MLURI and SCRI. This merger formed a new powerhouse for research into food, land use, and climate change.
