Biography:

  • BSc in Zoology, with Physics and Mathematics, University of Glasgow.
  • MSc in Operational Research, University of Sussex.
  • Teaching qualification in Mathematics and Computing, Moray House, Edinburgh.
  • PhD in Molecular Evolution, University of Edinburgh.
  • Joined BioSS in 1989, based at Dundee since 1998.

Current research interests

  • Software development: Design of TOPALi application for phylogenetic, positive selection, and recombination detection analyses.
  • Statistics methodology: Methods to analyse of multiple sequence alignments, particularly to detect evidence of recombination.

Collaboration/Consultancy/Training:

  • Application of statistical/evolutionary methods to molecular sequence data and genomics data.
  • Providing training in molecular phylogenetics.
