Derek Stewart

Derek Stewart is the Director of the Advanced Plant Growth Centre (APGC), a £27M flagship project at the James Hutton

David Riach

David is a Field Research Scientist in the Environmental and Biochemical Sciences group and has worked at the institute for over 30 years. His main roles are to carry out field sampling (water and soils), the setup and maintenance of field equipment, the processing of samples in the laboratory (water and soils) and the planning and organization of field equipment. He is also part of a field team who carry out soil surveys to create soil maps for use by Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS).

Pat Cooper

Pat is a research assistant with 25 years experience, mainly in Soil Organic Chemistry, Microbiological and Biogeochemistry of Catchment Systems. She has experience of a broad range of Analytical and Microbiological techniques with extensive fieldwork and site management skills.

Stephen Addy

Steve is a hydromorphologist who is interested in physical processes and forms within river systems.  His background is in physical geography and fluvial geomorphology.  Based at the University of Aberdeen, he gained a BSc degree in geography in 2005 and completed a PhD in fluvial geomorphology in 2009.
