Kevin Buchan
Kevin is an experienced software engineer and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist with a BSc in Computer Science. He has worked at The James Hutton Institute (and formerly at MLURI) since 1999 and is part of an inter-disciplinary research team carrying out integrative, systems and policy-focused research across a range of domains including climate change and CAP reform.
Kevin is a specialist in the design and development of Windows applications (C#.NET) and rule-driven decision support systems (Gensym G2). He is also an experienced data analyst, Oracle database designer and PL/SQL programmer.
Current research interests
Kevin takes a leading role in all aspects of the development lifecycle, providing innovative experimental software, databases and analytical reporting for in-house research scientists and a range of external clients (e.g. European Commission, Scottish Government, Local Authorities and land management stakeholders).
Of particular interest to him is his role in the development and analysis of modelling scenarios for the distribution of EU agricultural subsidies worth €650 million per year to Scotland (Inquiry into Future Agricultural Support for Scotland).
