Andrew Thorburn has worked at the Institute since 1993, as a research assistant in the Socio-Economic Research Group (1993 - 2000) and as the Institute's Webmaster/Spatial Database Manager (2000 - date) in the IT Services group. Previously he trained as a commercial production forester in Scotland.

Current research interests

Andrew's research focuses on the development of browser based applications to aid the research of the science base.  Andrew also manages the back-end technology which aids in the delivery of Web Mapping Services as part of our INSPIRE obligations.

The James Hutton Research Institute is the result of the merger in April 2011 of MLURI and SCRI. This merger formed a new powerhouse for research into food, land use, and climate change.
