Diana Valero is a social scientist working as MDT Fellow in Rural Water Security working in the Social, Economic and Geographical Sciences (SEGS) research group at the James Hutton Institute.
Her educational background is in political science, local development and rural policy.
Prior to joining The James Hutton Institute in 2021 she carried out postdoc research at the University of Stirling and in the Centre for Mountian Studies at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Diana earned her PhD from the University of Valencia in Spain.
Stuart is a PhD researcher affiliated with the Environmental and Biochemical Sciences group at the James Hutton Institute and the School of Engineering at Robert Gordon University (RGU), Aberdeen. He completed a BSc (Hons) in Forensic & Analytical Science at RGU in 2019. Stuart began his PhD at the James Hutton Institute in October 2019 working on microplastics in the terrestrial environment.

I am agricultural and rural economist working in the Social, Economic and Geographical Sciences (SEGS) department of the James Hutton
My area of expertise is in measuring and modelling the deposition, concentrations and trends of ground-level ozone and other gases although I have worked in other areas including acid deposition and NH3 exchange. I have also worked with a Chemical Ionisation Mass Spectrometer (CIMS) to measure various different species and assist with instrumentation for field sites and campaigns.
I am a qualitative social scientist in the Social, Economic and Geographical Sciences Group, joining in 2018. I have a background in human geography, and enjoy research in rural areas working with different land users in the countryside. My current role explores rural migration across Scotland, digitalisation amongst small-scale farmers and crofting communities in Scotland, agricultural innovation, and the continued impacts of Covid-19 on rural and island communities in Scotland.

Angela graduated in 1987 with an honours degree in Physical Sciences (Chemistry) and has over 30 years laboratory experience including the analysis of drinking waters, effluents ,waste waters and core analysis.
Since joining the institute in 2001 she has worked in microbiology and molecular biology gaining experience of phospholipid fatty acid analysis (PLFA), microresp, DNA extractions and mTRFLP of soils.
